Responsible Pet Ownership
Choosing the Right Pet
Take your lifestyle into consideration. Will you have enough time and energy to devote to your pet?
Spay or Neuter Your Pet
Spaying and neutering:
Prevents unwanted pets
Prevents future problems for owners
Prevents diseases
Can help to calm down pets
Reduces spotting and spaying problems
Discourages roaming and fighting
Use Proper Identification
The rabies identification tag is your pet’s free call home. The law requires that pets wear rabies tags.
If You Lose Your Pet
Begin your search as soon as your pet is missing. Most shelters will only house animals for a period of five to six days.
Call and visit all area shelters. The shelter cannot call if your pet has no identification tag or microchip.
Call the local police.
Post signs with a description of your pet.
To Avoid Animal Bites
Never force a strange animal into a vehicle.
Do not handle an injured or sick animal. Instead, call animal control.
